At DRAGGIN’ WING FARM (named after the kildeers who nest here each spring), we have a growing number of demonstration/test beds for xeriscaping. From Spring to Fall a succession of plants show off their color:

On the left, the upper demonstration garden with Agastache rupestris, Sunset Hyssop, an fantastic hummingbird attractor.


On the right, Maximillian's Sunflower bursts into bloom in the Fall, just as the rest of the garden prepares for winter.

Above, flowering Penstemons add color to the summer garden. And below, evergreen groundcovers give form to the garden all year long.










High Desert Landscape


In September 2007, we installed a new, completely native "Northern High Desert" landscape. Can we create a beautiful, colorful landscape that is completely appropriate to our particular bio-region--the area of similar hot, dry in summer, cold in winter--roughly Southern Idaho, Eastern Oregon, Northern Nevada and Utah? Here is our attempt:

Here, Barney is digging the pathways for the new landscape. And my daughter, Georgianna is putting in the plants:
