As you may know, I love buckwheats. This one, Lacy Buckwheat (Eriogonum corymbosum), is the largest in our demo gardens. Typically a plant of the red rock country of Southern Utah and Northern Arizona, it grows well here but is largely unknown and unused in S. Idaho. More’s the pity, as it blooms stunningly in the fall and leaves behind a dense, branchy mound for winter interest.
Buckwheats attract a wide variety of pollinators. I can see many different bees along with various flies, beetles, wasps and other tiny unidentified (by me) bugs. Planting buckwheats for spring, summer and fall will bring a lot of life into the garden!
